Our mission is to support, encourage and provide inspiration to fatherless teenagers. We define fatherless as being emotionally unavailable and/or physically absent. We are dedicated and committed to providing educational services focused on self-value, self-esteem, and self-acceptance.
The Huckleberry Alliance, Inc. is honored to provide scholarships to deserving students that have endeavored to persevere through adversity.
Previous Award Recipient’s Scholarship Application Statements:
“I always wanted more from him though; real conversations, real affection, and real love. You might have your father physically there, but he was never mentally or emotionally prepared to parent and be the dad I needed and deserved.”
“While he lived, my father was emotionally and often physically absent. He suffered from depression. When I was nine years old, he moved out. Five years later, my father took his own life.”
“I’ve begun to come to terms with the fact that there are things my dad will never know about me. He’ll never know that I’m going to an Ivy League school for my childhood passion, but he always did share my love for animals and the outdoors. He’ll never know about my newfound love for plants, but he would always be the one to point out trees on our hikes. He will never know the person I have grown into, but all I can do is hope he’d be proud of me.”
Scholarship Criteria:
A graduating senior with a GPA of 3.75 or higher from James Wood High School in Winchester, Virginia, Sherando.High School in Stephens City, Virginia or Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville, Virginia. The high school senior must submit an application and essay and demonstrate school and community involvement.
Huckleberry Alliance works in partnership with the Frederick County Educational Foundation in Frederick County, Virginia for students graduating from James Wood High School and Sherando High School.
Huckleberry Alliance works in accordance with established scholarship application protocols at Loudoun Valley High School.
Huckleberry Alliance recognizes the need to expand scholarship opportunities to fatherless high school seniors throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Huckleberry Alliance remains hopeful in faith that extended services will become available as our non-profit organization prospers.
